NEWS & UPDATES

Recycle Mondays are back! Yes we have incentives! We're catching students recycling on Monday mornings, or if they bring in recycling at other times, they (or their parents) can fill out a Caught Recycling slip and put it in the Caught Recycling box in the office. We are trying to keep track of how much the students are recycling so we can quantify it at the end of the year. The student who recycles the most will be written up in the Garden Island. Also, starting with the second quarter, we will have quaterly drawings out of the box for some donated prizes. We're would also like to ask parents not to bring in glass HI 5s for safety reasons. If they do have a lot of glass recycling that they would like to bring in or donate we can arrange to meet them and I'll take it directly to the recycling center.

MAHALO to you all for participating in our Third Annual Fitness-A-Thon last Wednesday.  You helped raise over $14,000 for the school.  The money raised will be distributed by PTSA to the different grade levels to help with field trips and extra classroom supplies, playground improvements and all the events and activities that PTSA supports. Mahalo for helping make a difference at Kalaheo School!

More Good News!  Thanks to one of our Kalaheo parents, Ani Turner, Art4Moore has awarded Kalaheo Elementary PTSA $2000 for The Great Artist Program for SY2014-2015.  The check will arrive from Tides Foundation, most likely within the next month.  This is the second year that Art4Moore has provided funds to our school, total amount so far is $4,000.00!

We got our Kauai Marathon check for $2,163.00 ! Thank you to everyone who volunteered on the route and for all the families who ran the Keiki marathon.  We received an extra $500 for having the most runners in the Keiki Marathon.  Great job to everyone who helped this year!
Sincerely,
Erik Burkman

Kindergarten Age Has Changed!
Starting August 2014, for DOE school year 2014–2015, a child must be 5 years old on or before July 31 to be eligible to attend DOE kindergarten. DOE will not accept a child who is not 5 on or before July 31.
The beginning years of a child’s life are critical – research shows that the brain develops most rapidly in the first years of life.  See flyer for options, resources and referral services, click here>

KATO GYM PARKING FOR STAFF
The completion of the new administration building required that we update our parking for staff. We took cars off the grass area on campus where children play and assigned them to the Kato Gym parking lot.  We are no longer able to keep the Kato Gym parking open for parents in the morning.  School staff must have a place to park when they come to work.  Parents and visitors may park in Kato Gym parking lot after 8:00 a.m.  Sorry if this causes an inconvenience for you. Parents may use the drive by drop off or the overflow grass area up from Kato Gym before school.

NEW this year.... My Coke Rewards points can now be donated to our school! You can enter codes into your own My Coke Rewards account and donate them to Kalaheo School in any amount. You can also bring in your unused codes to turn in and let us enter them directly to our account. They have recently updated the program and now they reward our school with CASH for our points!
