Halloween Pumpkin Challenge 2008/2009
The Pumpkin Challenge
Mrs. Takekawa's lil' punkins were in for a treat. They twitched their little noses and wore their fall best since they were about to discover the secrets to pumkin success. "Whoo..whooo went the wind and out went the lights and "Five Little Pumpkins" came into sight. With five pumpkins they were ready to begin. They clustered into groups to solve the pumpkin mysteries: Are pumpkins fruits or vegetables, can a pumpkin float, how do they grow, how do they taste, and what on earth is inside. "MMMMMM" said the children, "we don't know?" They scratched their heads as they dreamed about sugary halloween treats. But they got back on track with some predictions and a little parental help. They floated, weighed, carved, scooped, counted and planted the pumpkins and their pumkin guts. Poof," their questions were answered. "Hooray," yelled the children surprised at how much they learned!
Thank You to Walmart for the pumpkins and thanks to the parents who helped by donating materials, snacks, and their time.
HAPPY FALL!

GERMS, GERMS, GERMS!
This group of 1st graders is focused on staying healthy, so they are learning about germs. They even conducted a scientific investigation to see which locations on their school campus were contaminated by germs. These young scientists even used digital microscopes to take a closer look at their data. Check out these photos!
