Artist in the School
Masks of the World
Our school was awarded a grant to implement an art program in the 2nd grade.  As a result, we are fortunate to have visiting artist Kathleen Kam from the Big Island.  Ms. Kam will be here during the month of April teaching our 2nd graders and our teachers specific art techniques through mask making.  The students will also be learning about cultures and traditions around the world!  Keep checking back to see this program develop.
This program began with a class for the teachers.  Ms. Kam outlined the program goals and showed several examples of the artwork the students will create.  Keep scrolling to see the student artists at work.  Notice their work with symmetry!
Hawaii Arts Alliance representative Carol Yotsuda congratulates Kalaheo School on winning the Arts Excellence Award before awarding the check and acknowledging two of our art teachers:  Mr. Griffith and Ms. Madayag.  Special thanks to Traci Sullivan for writing to the Hawaii Arts Alliance on behalf of the arts education at Kalaheo School.  .
Kalaheo School was one of only 3 schools in the state of Hawaii to receive a $3000 award from the Hawaii Arts Alliance.  This award honors our schools commitment to the arts and our dedication to teaching content through art.  Check out the photos of the award assembly.
