Kindergarten
Recycled  Paper Art Project
The Kindergarten classes enjoyed a day of recycled art.  A group of 12 parents volunteered and taught the kindergarteners about re-using, recycling and re-purposing everyday objects that would normally be thrown away into art.  The morning session started off with a story called Lucy's Picture by Nicola Moon and pictures by Alex Ayliffe.  This is a story of a young girl who creates a collage for her blind grandfather so he can "see" the picture.  Lucy uses glue, scrap materials, things from nature and even her own hair (it represents the fur of her grandfather's guide dog) to create a beautiful collage.

Each class had a box of scrap materials that included junk mail, catalogues, magazines, previously used wrapping paper, ribbon, construction paper scraps, tissue paper, and fabric samples.  The students were then given a brown paper bag "canvas" and pieces of a rabbit which were cut out from cereal boxes.  The kindergarteners then glued the rabbit to their canvas and were shown how to create a collage using their imagination and the scrap materials.  The finished artwork was inspiring and showcased all of their creativity by turning trash into art.
