RECYCLE MONDAYS
Wear your Kalaheo School Recycling T-shirt every Monday!  The shirt was designed by Kalaheo School third grade student Kelli.  The new shirts will soon be available for pre-order.  Show your support, wear your shirt and bring a bag of recyclables every Monday!
RECYCLE HI5
Do something good for the earth and help Kalaheo School too!

Kalaheo School collects aluminum cans, plastic bottles and glass containers that have the special HI5 designation on the label.  Through this program, we are able to divert these recyclables from the landfill and provide funding for various activities, projects and supplies for our students.  Between August 2006 and August 2009 we have collected over 51,000 pounds of recyclables.  As a result, we added over $27,000 to the school fundraising account.

So, bring your HI5 to Kalaheo School.  The bins are available anytime at the front of our campus.  Just remember the rules of recycling:

1. Check the label:  ONLY HI5 material is collected at school.  No wine bottles, milk jugs, liquor bottles, mayonnaise jars, trash, etc.
2. Empty the containers
3. Remove the lids
4. Bags of recyclables are welcome.  Please sort your material first.  If you don’t, someone else has to!
5. This just in:  2 liter bottles now qualify for redemption!

WASTE FREE LUNCH
Did you know that one child taking a disposable lunch to school creates an average of 67 pounds of lunch waste annually?  Did you know the Kauai landfill is reaching capacity?

There is something you can do:  pack your child a waste free lunch.  Start with a reusable lunchbox, pack your food in reusable containers, include a drink in a refillable bottle, add reusable utensils and use a cloth napkin.

This simple step will help our children learn to care for the planet, and the school will save money by reducing our waste and lowering fees associated with disposing of this waste.

Let's all REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE AND COMPOST our way to a greener Kalaheo School and a greener Kauai!
